Let the Office of Sustainability be your commuting guru!

Whether you are a student or an employee at MSU, you know that transportation is in high demand. Driving to campus adds traffic congestion, infrastructure costs, and pollution. At the Office, we are striving to increase convenience and incentives for commuters using alternative transportation. This not only improves campus transportation overall, but also achieves our goals for MSU's Climate Action Plan. Check out the Bozeman Commuter Project, to help schedule carpools, find alternate routes, and track your commutes!

Try these alternative transportation options on for size:

Carpool

Carpooling is sustainable, and a great way to meet new people. The Western Transportation Institute, with whom our office works closely, created a site called Ride Share MT in order to promote safe commuting across Montana.

City Transit

Another option is the Streamline, Bozeman's bus system, which is very convenient and free. All of the buses have bike racks on the front, so if you bike part of the way, the Streamline will gladly take you the rest of the way.

Streamline Daytime RoutesBiking

Cycling is the primary mode of transportation for a large portion of the student body. Bike parking is free. Read more about MSU biking here, including: rules of the road; the MSU Bike Task Force; the biking community; biking events at MSU; bike maps; and where to get your bike fixed for free.

bike check

The Bobcat Bike Check is Back!  In order to promote more biking on campus, our office has created a Bike Valet service at the Bobcat Football Games. That means, if you ride to the game, feel free to give us your bike and we will be happy to keep it safe for the entirety of the game. The cost is FREE, and we will have someone at the booth at all times so that the bikes stay secure.

The booth opens 3 hours before kickoff, and closes 1 hour after the game ends

All you need to do is grab a raffle ticket, and write down your phone number (in case you lose your ticket, we will use the phone number as verification of bike ownership). It's that simple!

Walking

Many people choose to walk to and around campus. MSU is pedestrian friendly, with beautiful views and plenty of green spaces. MSU's campus is just 1.5 mi from downtown Bozeman and minutes away from the Gallagator trail system. Whatever your mode of transportation, stay safe and get to class!
